24h-race Nürburgring

2009-05-24 - Almost sensation at the 24h-race
The Phoenix team missed the sensation by a hair breadth with a strong team performance at the 24h-race. For 20 hours the brand-new Audi R8 fought hardly against the Manthey team and was in the lead for the most part. The Ernst Moser team with the drivers Stippler/Rockenfeller/Fässler/Basseng had to accept a long stop because of a defective drive shaft which threw it back to the 8th position. Finally the team came 5th.
Stippler: “The race was a success even though we narrowly missed the victory. The speed which we had to go against the Manthey team was enormous. The Audi R8 made a sensational showing at its first race on the hardest race track of the world and on such a long distance. We were in the lead for a long time and came 2nd with the Abt-car. The Phoenix team did a good job in the run up to the race and the week-end itself.”
