2010-07-11 - Fantastic triumph for Balz/Stippler in the Maserati Birdcage

It was a sensational overall-victory for the duo Balz/Stippler and their Maserati Birdcage at the 24h-race for historical race cars. At first, the team let their competitors go ahead, but then they caught up continuously with constant fast lap-times, especially in the night, in order to win at the end with a 3.8 sec. start.

Stippler: "50 years ago this car already led here for a long time until it finally dropped out. It's great that we were able to correct that this week end. Especially the night-laps had been the best I have ever driven so far. It's pretty cool to drive down the straight side by side with Ferrari, Maserati and Jaguar at a speed of 260 km/h and to look at the exhaust flames of my competitors during the braking process! That was real good motor sport."
